(Nick) As it was Amy's last day with the expedition, we decided that going to Land Rover should wait until tomorrow, instead, we went to visit one of the greatest Mayan cities, Teuatuacan. This was of particular interest to Amy, who's first degree was was a joint honours for History as well as Law.

We decided to climb the pyramids, but once we reached the top, the weather had closed in, limiting our view.

After reaching the top of the pyramid, we needed to take shelter from the heavy rain shower which we could see coming from the hills, as it was lunch time, we headed to some of the restaurants located at the site.
At the restaurant, we decided to treat ourselves to some mariachis, and ordered some food. Daniel, feeling adventurous, ordered the one item on the menu he didn't recognise, and was rewarded by a stomach churning combination of mince, fruit, sweet cream and chilli. The description given, was: "it is like eating a mince flavoured ice cream". Not being one to reject any food however, Dan finished his meal, by which time, the rain had eased off.

Heading back out to the pyramids in the drizzle, Amy, Dan and I walked over to the Pyramid of the Moon. On the way, we posed for some photographs and bought some souvenirs from the many sellers at the site.
We were becoming increasingly frustrated at the complete lack of originality of the site, particularly when we read in the guidebook, that the original site had been practically demolished for rebuilding into a tourist destination! A fact the writer was quite proud of! On the site, there are some original features, including some snake and jaguar statues, and a large murial. However, we did feel that the murial looked like it had been drawn by a 5 year old, particularly given the beauty of almost all other artwork and architecture from the period!

Once on the Pyramid of the Moon, we had a superb view of the entire site, which was now quite empty after all but the most die hard had left from the rain earlier.

As the light was beginning to fade, we headed back down the motorway to the city centre. Wanting to do something special for Amy's last night with the expedition, we decided to put the jaccuzi on the roof of our hotel to good use. Ordering some champagne and having the pool filled with water, we were up on the roof for several hours. Unfortunately, the heaters were turned off when we got in, so the pool became cold before too long, as Mexico City is actually quite cold, particularly on the roof of a 12 storey building, we were eventually forced back inside to shelter from the freezing cold!
