(Nick) This morning, Daniel and I decided that we should check out of the Hotel Europe, Amy had complained when she left that her watch had gone missing, and after searching the room, we couldn't find it. As we checked out, we reported the missing watch, and were assured that the staff would never steal anything from the rooms, and that we had not looked hard enough.
Yesterday, we arranged a service for our vehicle, but had to return to the hotel get the trailer, which we were allowed to leave at Land Rover's garage. Now we knew the route, it was much faster to get there. Unfortunately, one of the roads to the Land Rover garage was for cars only, this had been enforced by a height restriction bar over the road, which we passed under before. A policeman saw us using this route, and pulled us over. Unfortunately, he could not fine us for driving under the bar, as we were not a commercial vehicle, and we had fitted underneath the bar, so looking around, asked us where the registration plate was. Daniel pointed out that it was on the roof rack, which is legal in UK, and therefore, legal for use in Mexico under international agreements.
The policeman then made a big mistake, he asked to see the documents for Daniel and the car. Pulling out our document pack, Daniel showed the policeman his passport, visa, vehicle temporary import permit, insurance, carnet, international drivers license, international motor certificate and his document of ownership of the vehicle. Almost buried under paperwork, the policeman decided that trying to find an infraction was not worth the effort, and waved us to go on.
Arriving back at Land Rover, the 180 degrees expedition vehicle had now gone. While we were gone, they had phoned to check the work was finished and come and picked it up very quickly.

Daniel and I set about unhooking the trailer, when the heavens opened, we both managed to get our waterproof coats and trousers on, but neither of us had our boots on, causing our shoes and socks to become soaked.
Having discussed with the service manager and mechanics, the work that was required and the work that could be undertaken at Land Rover Mexico, crossed the road to enquire about rates in the local hotels, they were all extremely expensive, but we couldn't afford to keep taking taxi rides to and from the city centre, so took the plunge for the nearest hotel. The room was ultra stylish, pity it wasnt ultra cheap!

At that time, we got a call from the receptionist at Hotel Europe, where Amy's watch had been 'found'. As the watch was worth quite a lot of money, Daniel and I caught a taxi, which took a very convoluted route. As the driver explained why his route was better, Dan and I became more irate as it took him twice as long to get to the hotel as it had taken us even though he seemed to be driving very fast and ignoring the traffic lights as well!
Catching a different taxi back to our new hotel, we were both starving, having not eaten anything all day, and both feeling a little uneasy, we went for dinner at an angus steak house, Daniel and I paid well over the odds for a stomach settling meal. This was clearly one of the most expensive parts of the city!
Fortunately, the nights sleep was much better, although the view was poor, as the windows were made of ground glass.
