(Daniel) This morning I woke Up to a troop of Monkeys wandering past the tent, and cursed myself for leaving the camera downstairs in the Wolf! The excitement was short lived however as the heavens opened and the most amazing torrential downpour happened almost instantly. I waited in the tent but the rain just kept coming, and eventually I had to get up. Just as well, as the air vents on the Wolf were still open and when I opened the door there was water pouring down from behind the instruments into the foot well! I closed the vents and took the opportunity to type up some diary entries.
After an hour or so the rain stopped, and I got out and showered. After this I closed the roof tent and packed away the table and other bits and pieces of the camp. Then I went and paid up for the camping and drove to Kuantan to find out what was happening with my engine. As I drove into town I spotted a sign for “Sunday Bar” and decided to stop on the way back and see what this was all about.
I arrived at the boat place and the old man from before introduced me to his son, Loo. Loo told me that the mechanic had the engine at the moment and would probably be finished by tomorrow. I asked him to call me whatever happened, and was about to leave when Loo mentioned that he had a friend in town who was a big Land Rover fan, and did I want to go and get a coffee at his café. I accepted and followed him into town and to the café.
When we arrived Loo introduced me to David, who had lived in Greenwich before now, an old haunt of mine. We chatted as we sat and drank coffee, and one by one more and more people came and sat with us until we had a whole group of people, from the local car salesman to the local Chinese party politician! After a while we all went outside to see the Wolf, and then one of the guys said that they would call the local reporter to come and do a story. She turned up in minutes and interviewed me before taking some photos of me, the others and the Wolf. After this David asked if I would like to go and see his Range Rover which was in a garage close to here. I went with him and took a look before driving back towards Cherating.
On the way I saw the sign for Sunday Bar again, and pulled in to take a look. There was a resort called Batu Village, and at the end the Sunday Bar sat on the beach. I walked in and started to talk to the Owner, Regis. He was French, and had Tiger beer on Tap, so I had a few glasses with him, and told hi of the Expedition. He told me that I could camp on the beach here for free, so I moved the truck around and sat down again with him for a couple more beers before he had to go home. After this another guy came in, A Chinese man, named Leo, he owned the water sports business opposite the Sunday bar, and told me that I would be safe to camp outside his place. SO again I moved the truck, and then went with Leo into the Resorts Karaoke bar, and sat up until 1am singing Malay songs with the locals!
After falling out of the Karaoke bar, I went up to bed, having arranged with Leo to go spear fishing tomorrow, and finally use my spear gun that I had tramped around the world!
