Monday 23rd April 2007 - Kuala Lumpur

(Daniel) I woke up in Lawrences apartment, still feeling the effects of yesterdays long drive.

Once Lawrence had woken up, some considerable time later!  We both went for breakfast at a local restaurant.  From there we headed to a computer market in town.  The intention was to buy a new hard drive, reload windows from my recovery disk and then transfer across the files from the old hard drive to the new one.

The market was as one would expect from Malaysia, a huge mall devoted on all five floors to computing.  We shpped around the place, getting first a new DVD writer from the laptop.  With the drive fitted, we found a larger 120 Gigabyte hard drive.  To go with the old hard drive that could hopefully still be accessed, I bought an external USB hard drive case.

We returned to Lawrence’s house, but were unable to access the files on the old drive, whatever corruption had affected it had now spread to the files.  These were my photos from the trip, and everything from the last 5 years of my life.  I had some backups around the place, but these would be unreliable or incomplete.  Loosing the information on the hard drive would be torturous to say the least.

Lawrence had a friend living in the same block, an American by the name of Sean Lucky.  Sean was the typical computer nut, sat in his apartment with a control centre of computers.  He had consipiracy theories about everything and was married to a muslim lady connected to the Malaysian Royal Family.  He gave us a specialist program to run on the Hard disk.  We began the program running, but it said that it required 11 hours to run it’s course.

While we left the hard disk running through the diagnostic and repair program, The four of us went out to dinner together.
